    The service covers the vast majority of cars, SUVs, and light‑duty trucks on the road. As long as the vehicle has a standard 17‑digit VIN, there is a good chance VIN Wise can run a full history check on it. Whether you’re buying from a dealership or a private seller, our system is built to cover most vehicles on the U.S. market.

    Where can I find my car’s VIN – and what if I don’t have it?

    You can usually locate the VIN by looking at the lower‑left corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield on the driver’s side, inside the driver’s door frame near the latch, or under the hood on the engine block. The VIN is also printed on the title, registration papers, insurance policy, and service records. If you can’t access the VIN, VIN Wise allows you to run a search using the US license plate number instead.

    Our reports compile information from over 70 independent data sources. They check for hidden damage and verify odometer readings, trace ownership and sales history, provide past photos and technical specifications, and verify safety recalls or theft status across multiple databases. Using multiple sources helps ensure the information you receive is as reliable and comprehensive as possible.

    Are expert consultations available?

    Yes. In addition to running VIN reports, your membership gives you unlimited 24/7 access to certified mechanics. After you receive a report, you can chat with a mechanic to interpret the findings, ask follow‑up questions, or get advice on maintenance and repairs.     How We Work

    How do I run a VIN check?

    To run a vehicle history report, enter the 17‑digit VIN or the vehicle’s US license plate number on VIN Wise and click Check VIN. The system will gather data from more than 70 sources and deliver your report within about 10 minutes. You’ll then be able to download the report and chat with a mechanic if you have questions about the results.

    How many reports can I run?

    You can get a new report each time you need one. Simply click the Get a new report button at the top right of the page, and you’ll receive a fresh vehicle history report for the car you want to check. Each report is billed separately, so you only pay for what you use.

    What if I don’t have the VIN?

    If you cannot locate the vehicle’s VIN, you can still perform a history check by entering the US license plate number on VIN Wise. Our system will cross‑reference the plate with official data sources to build the report.

    How do I interpret the report?

    The report is organized into sections covering vehicle condition, ownership and sales history, photos and technical details, and safety/theft information. Each section summarizes key findings, such as hidden damage, odometer accuracy, number of previous owners, and any outstanding recalls. If you need help understanding any item, you can start a chat with a certified mechanic for clarification. Simply click the Start a new chat button in the Chat history. The expert will walk you through the data and advise you on what to do next.

    I can’t log in to my VIN Wise account. What should I do?

    First, make sure you’re entering the correct email address and password you used during registration. If you’ve forgotten your password, click the Forgot your password? link and follow the steps to reset it. If you still can’t log in, enable all cookies and add VIN Wise to your browser’s list of trusted sites.

    How can I change my password?

    To change your password, follow the Forgot password? link, enter the email associated with your account, and click Reset password. We’ll send you an email with a reset link; click the link and follow the instructions to create a new password. If you don’t receive the email within a few minutes, check your Spam folder or contact Customer Care at support@vinwise.com.

    “This email is already taken.” What does it mean?

    This message usually means you’ve previously used this email address to sign up for VIN Wise. Simply enter your email and password to sign in. If you can’t remember your password, click the reset link to receive a new one.

    I don’t want to receive email notifications from you. How can I unsubscribe?

    VIN Wise uses your email to notify you about important events such as your first report or messages from mechanics. To stop receiving these emails, open any email from us, scroll to the bottom, and click the Unsubscribe link.

    How do I delete my VIN Wise account?

    Accounts cannot currently be deleted manually. If you wish to remove your account, send a request to Customer Care at support@vinwise.com and they will process the deletion for you.

    Subscriptions

    How do I buy a subscription? Is it safe to share my financial information?

    You can subscribe using a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal. We process payments through HTTPS and secure 128‑bit SSL encryption to protect your personal and financial information.

    What’s included with my membership?

    With your membership, you get full access to our VIN lookup service. This means you can quickly purchase detailed vehicle history reports whenever you need them. Each report provides information such as accident records, mileage history, title status, recalls, and other essential details about a car’s past. In addition, your membership allows you to consult directly with our car experts. If you have questions about the report or need advice on interpreting the results, you can chat with an expert anytime.

    How can I check my subscription status?

    Sign in to VIN Wise, open the My account page, and select the Settings tab, then Subscription to view your subscription status.

    Why does the site ask me to pay when I try to run a report?

    Only members with an active subscription can access vehicle history reports and the expert chat. If you’re being asked to pay, you may not have subscribed yet, or you might not be signed in. Sign in and try again, or complete the subscription purchase to continue.

    How can I cancel my VIN Wise subscription?

    We hope to keep you as a customer, but you can cancel anytime. Sign in, open the My account page, and select the Settings tab, then Subscription, and click Cancel. If you’re considering canceling because of an unsatisfactory report or consultation, remember that you can request a new expert or a second opinion by contacting Customer Care at support@vinwise.com.

    How many reports can I run each month?

    There’s no monthly limit on how many vehicles you can check. Each time you want a new vehicle history report, simply click the Get a new report button at the top right of the page. Every report is purchased separately, so you only pay for the ones you actually need.

    Billing & Payment

    How do I pay for my subscription?

    Your membership renews automatically every 28 days from the date you subscribed. You can pay with credit or debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal. You can cancel at any time through your account settings.

    My payment was declined. What happened?

    Payments can be declined for several reasons: incorrect card details, insufficient funds, an expired card, or a security hold by the card issuer. Check the information you entered and ensure you have sufficient funds, or contact your bank for more details.

    Why do I see your company on my credit card statement?

    You’re seeing VIN Wise on your statement because you purchased a subscription. VIN Wise provides detailed vehicle history reports and online consultations with car mechanics. If you still have questions about a charge, please contact our Billing Support team at billing@vinwise.com.

    I’m not satisfied with your service. How do I request a refund?

    We work hard to provide excellent service and seek win‑win solutions. If you’re unhappy with your membership, contact Customer Care at support@vinwise.com and explain the issue. They will review your request and let you know if a refund is possible.
